Recent heavy rains caused a landslide on the highway that connects Spring City in Rhea County to Crossville in Cumberland County. The subsequent detour around the affected area adds up to two (2) extra hours to local residents’ commute. GeoStabilization International® arrived on-site within 48 hours to begin emergency repairs that are expected to take four (4) weeks to complete. After loose material is removed from the slide area, soil nails and shotcrete will be utilized to stabilize the remaining slope. Then a Geosynthetically Confined Soil® (GCS®) wall will be erected to reclaim the lost roadway. More details are contained in this News Channel 9 story.
