What is a Spider Excavator?

A spider excavator or a walking excavator is a specialty piece of all-terrain equipment. The main feature of this machine is its ability to move in a spider-like fashion with its’ four independently operating legs allowing it to overcome many terrain obstacles with minimal environmental impact. This allows us to access difficult terrains that most machines don’t have the capability to.

Advantages of a Spider Excavator

Find us working in our favorite office… the great outdoors. From working above the clouds to working alongside roads to keep the public safe, we can go where typical construction equipment cannot go. With more than 40 years of experience in the steep slope space, our crews are capable to handle anything in these difficult-to-access regions with precision. We have the only training facility in the U.S. that specializes in operating spider excavators, allowing us to create real-life scenarios in a controlled environment. Allowing you to have peace of mind knowing that you have professionals on the job.

We have the largest and newest fleet of Kaiser excavators in North America meaning we have a variety of spider excavators to tailor to your project needs. Need an excavator with low impact? Do you have a project that needs an excavator to climb 60-degree slopes with ease? We have models just for that.

We take pride in what we do and the services we offer, so making sure that we have a fleet of reliable and efficient machines is important to us. Especially when you have an emergency that you need us to respond to. This allows us to rapidly respond to your call and can be onsite in a couple of days.

All of our excavators use biodegradable hydraulic fluid, engine oil, and grease, which is fully decomposed by micro-organisms found in the soil and water helping provide a lighter impact on the environment. With the spider excavator’s four independently operating legs, it creates an optimal platform to be able to consistently drive to many limited access areas with low impact on the environment.

We also take great pride in the safety of our crew and the project at hand which is why we have an extensive SPRAT training program and the only training facility in the U.S. that specializes in operating walking excavators. This has led us to achieve a TRIR rating of 0. Our experienced and professional operators are able to assess the terrain and make strategic decisions on the job site This has allowed us to compete in the industry with an above-industry-average safety factor allowing us to keep our crews safe and keep your project on schedule.
