Virginia DOT District Engineer

When you first appeared in our office, I could not conceive how important your work would be to the citizens of the Commonwealth, and how helpful it would be in mitigating some of our most difficult and prevalent geohazards. You have my highest respect. I've certainly enjoyed interacting with you and everyone at GSI. You have a great bunch of people working with you and you provide an excellent product.

Adjacent Landowner to Santa Clara County, CA project

“I would like to thank you and the county for repairing the road slide on Dunne avenue. The repair is excellent and the contractors were very efficient and skilled. You personally did a great job of providing information about the status of the project. My family appreciates your efforts.”

75-year old passerby to a GeoStabilization worksite

“[I have] never seen every person on a job on a roadway in the past 20 years all sweating and earning their pay check” like they were.

Construction Inspector for Client in Tennessee

“Gentlemen, I wanted to thank you for working with us by reducing the rates of the overrun quantities of the [pipe] abandonment work that was performed on our project. The City is pleased with the performance of this operation and GSI's willingness to make the cost acceptable to both parties. Thank you.” The City’s representative then replied with the following text: “Gentlemen, The City wish[es] to thank [GSI] for its work ethic and professionalism in cooperating concerning the [pipe] abandonment of the N. St. Elmo project. You are Second to None, my traveling brothers.”

Homeowner in Colorado

I would like this to be a letter of appreciation and gratitude on a job well done. Our house was first threatened by a landslide back in June, 2017 and it has been a journey that has been both stressful and scary. And yet, every cloud has a silver lining and in this case the support, encouragement and character of everyone we met from GSI has indeed been a gift throughout this journey. GSI was recommended by Steve Pawlak and we met Nathan Thompson early on. Nathan is a person who inspires trust and our first impression was verified throughout the process that led to a retaining system that has saved our house. As with everyone, and I mean everyone we met, we felt we had a group of people who were on our side. There were challenges that were overcome; the patience needed along with several visits to get the project underway, a renegotiated plan and bid when the insurance settlement squeezed the payment amount, and a time crunch that led to a change in plans where the panels were poured on the hillside, that allowed for the project to be started as quickly as possible. The crew that showed up to do the work was respectful, always ready to explain what was happening and was also timely, hard working and ready to go the extra mile. A great group of people with positive attitudes who seemed to genuinely work well together. Watching Spike work on that excavator was awe inspiring. One of my favorite moments was filming him on my phone to show my office secretaries at the Elementary School. I recorded a "holy shit" without knowing it when he pulled off an amazing stunt coming off a ledge and then being horrified when that came out while I was sharing the video at school. I was able to laugh later. Thank you again and if I can ever serve as a reference, please let me know.

Homeowner in Duluth, Minnesota

I am sending this to you from Duluth Minnesota where 4 of your employees just finished working on a wall they had put in for us previously. That was a few years ago after Duluth suffered a flood. We are on Lake Superior and St. Louis County wanted to help stop erosion. The guys worked during the rain and just kept on going, like little Energizer bunnies. Nice fellows, all of them!! They are certainly a credit to your company and I feel it is always good to give thanks to people for a job well done. Please let them know how much we appreciated their dedication to get the job done. We will always wish you and your team good days ahead!!

Western DOT Chief Engineering Geologist

"We got notice today that GSI has completed the remediation work at the [road] Slide.  WYDOT greatly appreciates the responsiveness from GSI regarding the issues that occurred this spring.  Kirk and I were at the site last week right after they finished installing the micropiles and row of soil nails.  Everything looked great, I hope everything worked out coordinating traffic control with our maintenance folks.  Great job!, it is gratifying to work with such a professional, responsive organization."

West Virginia Heavy Maintenance Supervisor

“I just want to let you all know what an awesome job Cristian Penson and his crew did in the time that they were here in WV. These guys worked hard, kept their jobs nice and free of trash and debris, were very courteous to myself and my crew. Their quality of work was above and beyond. We set deadlines for him and his crew. We had scheduled to complete a 166’ slip repair in [Monongalia County] on 6/15/19 and they completed this project a day earlier than scheduled plus a 58’ slip that we added to him. Hats off to these gentlemen for a job well done!!! We hate to see Cristian and his crew leave [our district] but he will always be welcome back.“

Mining Customer in Canada

“The entire crew was a pleasure to work with; very hard working, pleasant and polite to everyone they worked with. Both Andrew and Mike were very professional as your onsite superintendent/GF. They were punctual every day, attended the safety huddle with the surface crew every day and took part in that. Between your crew and our surface crew, they lined up the work so that it went off without a problem. I was impressed with Mike in regards to the rock slide. … After discussing with your engineers and management a plan was devised to bring down a piece that potentially could have been a hazard. Mike, along with 1-2 others, were down on that very large piece drilling the required holes. On the day of the blast, Mike worked with our team to ensure he had everything he needed for the blast. We had scheduled it for 1:00, he and the others were up in time to blast but he did not feel right about the tie in. … Without hesitation, he and the crew member (young Irish fellow) went back down and corrected the tie in. The blast went off without issues at 1:30. He most likely only had one shot at it, I am happy he took the time to correct…. I inspected today, great job. …. Boden is a great asset to your team as well. He is a pretty sharp guy, very keen, does great work.  I would like to thank all of your crew, I think they all deserve kudos. They are all very hard working professionals who seem to really enjoy their work.”

Maryland County Chief Engineer

Thank you for your work efforts on Madonna Road (& Ridge Road). As always, your crews were professional, worked hard and kept us informed of what they were doing…. We hope that we never have to bring you back to Harford County (I trust you understand that statement ), but are very comfortable in the knowledge that if we do ever need your expertise again in the future, that you will be ready and willing to help and your staff will continue to perform the work exceedingly well.

FEMA Coordinator for Boyd County, Kentucky

This letter is to formally thank you for your exceptional contribution to the Boyd County Fiscal Court. Our projects were a success due to the hard work and attention to detail. Your teamwork resulted in an immensely successful completion of our FEMA projects in a timely manner. Would especially like to thank Ron Robinson and his crew John Surlock, Jordy Schricker, and Jesse Ricker for all their hard work.

Mid-Atlantic Department of Transportation Official

Hey Jennifer, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed working with you guys on [our project]. Under the circumstances with that big of a job, and traffic volume that was being detoured it was a little stressful, however you all were so easy to work with, it made my job easier! Just wanted to thank you and Ryan for keeping me informed weekly and sometimes daily. Sara did an amazing job with the drill pattern and the engineering side of things. Kyle is one of the best superintendents I have worked with, he is good to his guys and got a lot of work done due to his ability to plan ahead and coordinate. Great experience for me and I really enjoyed working with you all, looking forward to our next job sometime. Please let everyone on the crew know that I really appreciate all their hard work, pleasure meeting everyone! THANK YOU!”

Project’s Engineering Consultant

Justin, I wanted to reach out and let you know that is was a pleasure working with you all at the [….] Project. The guys on this job were very professional and never once wavered from the plans and specs. These guys did absolutely everything the right way and wanted to make sure that the customer was happy with the work. Again, I appreciate your guys’ hard work and professionalism and look forward to working with you again in the future.

HOA President

Riley, You, Jason and the GSI crew did an outstanding job stabilizing and resurfacing our retaining wall. We are extremely happy that we selected GSI for this project. All of you were efficient, flexible, knowledgeable, and professional. You and Jason were quick to respond to our requests, resolve any minor problems that occurred, and keep the project on schedule. We feel that this was all done at a reasonable price. Our wall looks great and I’m sure it will last for a very long time…. Please extend our thanks to everyone involved. We would highly recommend GSI to anyone who has a similar project.

Western New York City Manager

"Just wanted to pass on how pleased we are with the crew that’s working on the [Project] - things are looking great. The crew leader Matt is great to work with and is very professional. Great bunch of guys all the way around."

Client in Oregon from Hwy 47 Project

Just wanted to send a thank you to your crew as they were outstanding on our project up on Hwy 47 mp 6.3. I really appreciated the great communication and the hard work they did for us.

Pennsylvania Township Supervisor

[as told by GSI Project Development Engineer] This is the second project your company has completed for us and just like the first one a great crew to work with. Very competent, courteous, and informative … great job.

Contractor in South Dakota

Cameron, I’m glad you followed up because I don’t do a good job of telling people they did a good job sometimes and I know you’re like me if you hear nothing bad then it must have been OK. From my standpoint, you guys really helped us out by being able to get a crew here quickly which is just what we needed. As for the crew they were fantastic, pretty hands off on my end, didn’t require much of my time and did everything they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it. Which believe me is very refreshing. So, thank you guys for all your help and I do look forward to an opportunity to work with you again.

Mining Customer in Canada on Rockfall Mitigation & Scaling Project

Hey Trevor, I gotta [sic] admit, I was a little worried after our progress on the first day of scaling. I wondered if I’d missed something in analyzing that slope! However, on day two, the guys were able to get the bulk of the loose material down in the two areas I was concerned about. They also installed two prisms into the blocks adjacent to the areas scaled so we can monitor any changes in the slope. The team who came to site were the epitome of professional, not to mention a lot of fun to work with. There was never any point where I felt they were working unsafely. I am most impressed with the entire operation. I think we were able to remove 100% of the immediate hazard for that area, and 75-80% of the overall hazard. Job well done!

Residential Customer in Maryland

My wife and I live in Ohio and we are residential clients of GSI. Your team has been securing our lakefront cliff face over the past two weeks. I am writing you today to commend you on your outstanding team members. We had three rows of soil nails installed across about a 170' cliff edge overlooking Lake Erie. These were connected with a steel mesh, and the shotcrete facing is being finished as I write. We have been nothing but pleased with the results. In general, I can tell you that your crew has been dependable, respectful, friendly, polite, and quiet (at least as quiet as they can be). They have been flexible in their plans, and they have worked extremely hard. They even clean up after themselves after work each day. I have to say that I wasn't sure what to expect, but we have been pleasantly surprised. The project manager, Jared McDowell, has really kept the project moving -- they will finish almost a week early. There have been some roadblocks along the way - like locating a private underground natural gas pipeline in the yard and dealing with trouble getting machinery due to hurricanes - but Jared found a way to keep things going in the right direction. He was personable, and he listened to our concerns and answered our questions. I also appreciate the fact the he never gave the impression that he was too busy to talk to us. The other primary crew members Dylan Battaglia, Michal Kopij, Aaron Cordova are tremendous workers and nice guys. We would gladly work with them again if the need ever arose. I would also like to make a special note about our project development engineer, Greg Bachman. Thank goodness for him. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac, and we needed written permission from our neighbor to cross part of his lawn. Let's just say that our neighbor is a challenging person, and leave it at that. Greg spent several weeks meeting with different local engineering firms because our neighbor trusted their opinions and would not sign until the local firms saw our plans. I think most other compaines would have bailed at that point, but Greg stuck with us. Greg then had a face to face meeting with our neighbor and even agreed to have the GSI legal team simplify the contract language for Al's benefit. He also managed all the dealings with the city for permitting and the SWPPP plans. We are so grateful to have the GSI solution implemented as it was really the only cost-effective option available to us -- other than letting our property fall into Lake Erie. Greg went WAY above and beyond, and we can't thank him enough. I told Greg that if he ever needs a reference, we are here for him. This has been a really long endeavor, and we are so pleased to have the solution in place. It is a great feeling to know that our family and friends will be able to enjoy the view and feel completely safe. Thank you for your solution and congratulations on fielding a great team. Best of luck to you in the future.

Client helped by the Grouting Division

I wanted to drop you a quick note. Late last year I had Tom Szynakiewicz come by and advise me as to what I needed to do to fix my house structure. Tom and GSI were great to work with to find a solution for my structure issues. GSI did an excellent job for us and got us on the right track with the work that was performed. We just sold the home last week, and disclosed the work that was done. We had zero issues with selling the home because it was fixed by GSI. I am very thankful I called and got you guys involved! Thanks again for steering me in the right direction Wayne!

County Engineer in Maryland

Thanks for another successful project – one that was completed just in time, under difficult conditions and just before a major rehabilitation was required. This partnership has grown to be an extremely valuable tool for attacking failing roads in steep environments.

Client in Minnesota

Just wanted to say that somehow your workers/artists took an ugly and scarred piece of this earth and turned it into a very pleasing and contoured piece of this earth. It looks incredible!! The fellows were all so nice and just wonderful to us. They worked so hard and were always hear early…….no goofing off…. just working. My husband suffered a traumatic brain injury in early 2012 and it has been a rough couple of years. He is almost completely healed. There were many tears and a lot of frustration. Seeing this project and the amazing workmanship put into it has really put a smile on our face. We thank your fathers for getting this company up and running. We thank you and Tim for keeping it running. Your company made a difference in our life and one we will not soon forget. It is easy to say thanks…it is hard to put into words.... but know that our thank you comes from the heart!!!

Client in Virginia on GSI's Professionalism and Safety Consciousness

Rouse, thanks for your help on my project. Never before have I had a subcontractor who operated as well as you did. Professional, safety conscious, and so willing to get the job done. If you're ever near Richmond VA call me. I have nothing but good things to say about GSI. Thanks, Henry

Client in Nevada

We have worked on several estimates and concepts with GSI over the last few years. Last spring, we had an opportunity to build a project with them. We received a handful of quotes, GSI was not only competitive, but they also provided a solution that significantly improved the project sequence and schedule. I think it is definitely worth your time to get to know James and their capabilities. I would also add that in many instances, their proposal is not apples to apples with competitors. Because of their unique approaches, oftentimes the earthwork scope can be decreased or made cheaper by using GSI.

Customer from Oregon

GSI under commits and over delivers. Work is always completed ahead of time and on budget… [They are] competitive with more conventional slide repairs, but much more timely and minimizes impacts to traffic.

Geohazard Repair for Client in Kentucky

GSI, thanks for another successful project. It is always nice to work with you and your field crews. We are currently experiencing flooding here in [this area], so I am sure we will be utilizing your services once again in the near future. The repair was “headache free” and that is very nice, to have a company and crew, come in do their job. You would be surprised how many contractors come in and are not as safety oriented and headache free as yours and for that reason, I am writing this email to let you know as a manager I appreciate the professionalism.

Client in Tennessee Pleased with Safety and Professionalism

I wanted to take a moment to express gratitude and satisfaction with the job that GSI performed for me.  This work was inside a very congested industrial environment which also had other potential hazards with the presence of alcohol. In addition to confined quarters inside the building we had extreme weather conditions taking place outside the building.  My client was on a critical path timeline and this required GSI to return the week between Christmas and New Year’s. I knew that this was a mandatory week off for GSI but your organization came through, no ifs, ands or buts. 1.) The job superintendent, Ian Turner, handled himself remarkably. He was professional and no matter what the situation he took ownership. 2.) Every person on my job site with GSI had an extraordinary attitude. Case in point: As I was giving a “pep talk” I commented, “some of you guys may be ready to go home”. Emanuel from Georgia, raised his head looked at me and said “no, we wanna finish this job”. Every single person on this project is welcome to work on my projects anytime! 3.) Jarrod Hartshorn was as stated in your company policies willing to communicate 24/7. He answered his phone night or day and if he didn’t in a short while I could expect a phone call.  Jarrod also drove to my project to check on things with me and with the crew working. 4.) One of the best safety programs I have ever witnessed! I enjoy doing “flex and stretch“ with the crew every morning. Thank you! 5.) Hats off to all those volunteers the week after Christmas. I wish I could remember all names but a special thanks to everyone on my project [including] Preston, Emanuel, Ian, Cole, Cliff, Jarrod, Zach, and the maintenance guy from Kentucky.

GSI is One Class Act Says Client in New Mexico

Roger is 65 years old and has been in the construction business his whole adult life. He explained to me that he felt compelled to call and give praise to Brice Steffan, his crew and his managers, as well as GSI as a company. “GSI is one class act, in their people and their safety,” Mr. Lamoreux explained. He said although this crew was “young in age, Brice at 25, they all carry themselves maturely and professionally. These boys were very impressive, just like on their shirts, Work Hard or Go Home.” He ended the call with saying he hopes he gets to work with us again.”

Client in Virginia on Stress Free Installation

Hope all is well, I wanted to reach out and say that I had a great experience working with you all.  Freddy and his whole crew did everything they could to make my job stress free, as well as doing a great/timely/clean installation.  They were all knowledgeable and safety conscious throughout the entire job, and if I ever had a request or felt uneasy they did everything they could to comply with me. If you have anything else around that you think we could help out with, please contact me at any time.

Client in Wyoming on Landslides Which Damaged WYDOT Roads

In 2017, another well above normal snowpack winter and heavy spring rains resulted in 23 new landslides, which damaged or threatened WYDOT roads. WYDOT turned to GSI to help respond to these emergency situations. GSI was able to respond very quickly and in most cases had personnel on site to assess the site within 24 hours. They would provide a proposal for remediation with a preliminary design and estimated costs within 48 hours in most cases. During 2017, GSI was selected to perform remediation with contracts at six separate sites. In all cases, they were prepared to mobilize to the sites and begin work within a week of being given notice to proceed. A unique element of these emergency contracts was a partnership, between WYDOT and GSI, by which WYDOT provided some logistical support such as traffic control and providing water for drilling operations so that GSI could focus its efforts on performing the specialty work. This arrangement resulted in cost effective, efficient, successful projects. When responding to emergency landslide repair, time truly is money, the sooner a landslide can be remediated before it has a chance to grow, the less expensive it is to repair. In the past, WYDOT has experienced situations in which, landslides could possibly have been remediated quicker, experienced further failure during drawn out conventional design and contracting methods resulting in higher costs due to the additional failure. GSI uses various types of innovative geo-technology in their landslide remediation projects…. All of these projects were completed on schedule, even with cold weather conditions and snow storms …. All of the stabilization projects that GSI completed for WYDOT included a warranty to repair any of the remediation that would happen to fail, but to date none of the work that they have performed has required any repair. I would highly recommend GeoStabilization International to perform emergency landslide and slope remediation work. They have the resources, personnel, and expertise to respond to your emergency in a timely, professional manner.

Client in New Mexico Praises GSI's Professionalism & Experience

I want to thank you and your crew for the exceptional job we just completed. It was a pleasure working alongside Brice and his crew. All of them are very stand-up men and have amazing respect, are knowledgeable with the process and technique, and all deserve an “Atta-Boy”. (Ha-ha). If you could pass this along to your superiors I would appreciate it. Once again, it was a pleasure working with GSI and this crew.

Montana Governor Steve Bullock

In handwritten note to Brett Gustafson, Project Manager for GeoStabilization: “Brett – Thank you for your quick response to reopen Blue Slide Road in Sanders County.  Your talented team was available to complete a road for the public to travel on in less than 45 days.  Mother Nature has challenged us in Montana this year with moisture in all forms, and we appreciate your resilience in the face of those challenges.  Sincerely, Steve Bullock.

Arkansas State Representative

“The [road] between Van Buren and Figure Five was a major project and is so well done. Thank you for this excellent improvement, which was completed well before projected dates (at least the dates I'd heard). I know in your job, as in mine, you hear lots of complaints. I want to thank you for always being available and for doing such good work.”

Client in Arkansas

“…. this praise [from the Legislator] is all directed to you as the Contractors on the project for the work that you do.  The completion of this Site required a great deal of coordination of efforts which was done in an impressive manner and under adverse conditions in the last few days.  Please pass this along to your field personnel who persevered under hot weather among other adverse conditions and handled it with professionalism.  This was a major inconvenience to the people in the area, so it was great to see it come together like it did with a great final product.  Thanks again for all of your efforts in making this happen.”

General Contractor in Tennessee

I’d like to say that it was a pleasure working with GSI. I would like to personally commend the efforts of Josh Kelly and his crew; Steven, Lee, Austin, and Trent. They went above and beyond to meet our schedule by working long hours, more importantly long “hard” hours. They are an extremely hard-working bunch who never complained and did whatever it took to get the job done, they are a crew that I would recommend to anyone. This speaks more importantly than anything else to the caliber of work that GSI performs. I believe that the relationship formed between [our company] and GSI on this project will lead to future partnerships on projects down the road and I hope that the mutual respect we’ve developed on this project will continue for years to come. Thanks again and please let Josh and his crew know that their hard work was greatly appreciated.

Client in New Mexico

Marty, I really appreciate all of your cooperation and the cooperation of your crew. They’re great people doing an amazing job. We have placed all of the first 4 rows with very little problems as of Saturday the 28th of March. These guys really deserve a pat on the back from my standpoint. I know they’ve performed a lot of work elsewhere but, this job is going amazing. You have a great crew and they know their jobs very well. The most standoutish part is that they get along on site great and perform in a very professional manner. Thank you for all your help Marty.

Client in Oregon

We had a very good experience working with GSI and I look forward to working with them again. GSI was a good partner in evaluating our site conditions, access constraints, and performance goals, and determining a practical approach to repairing our failing retaining wall. I have been impressed with their combination of technical experts and construction personnel.

Client in British Columbia, Canada on GSI's Professionalism and Experience

I am writing this email to let you know that we are honored to work with GSI and your subcontractors as you have all demonstrated professionalism since your very first involvement of the project. Everyone on the project team is highly experienced, efficient and motivated. We also appreciate your professional work and your prompt response to our inquires. We understand that it is a project and a project site with many unique challenges. Many thanks again!

Rock Mitigation Client in Virginia

I wish I had been smart enough to let you design the rock mitigation. You and your team turned in an excellent performance. The work ethic of your team impressed everyone on our side of the table. Most companies print a slogan on their company clothing. However, your folks demonstrated every hour that they “Work Hard or Go Home”. You sent us a world class construction team – thanks!

Slope Stabilization Client in Virginia

I’d like to take a moment and thank you for sending a great crew for the stabilization at [our site]. With the leadership of Dylan Battaglia and his crew, safety was always incorporated in each task that was performed. Dylan communicated each phase with [our company] and also gave great instruction to all his employees during the JSA process. Great job! I’d like to ask if you could send the same crew back for the final phase of the project and wrap the project up in a positive manner. Thanks again for a job well done, and wish you and your family the best of the holidays. Please give your crew my best.

Client in Ontario, Canada

[Our] team wishes to acknowledge for the excellent work that Courtney Smith and his team performed for us this summer at [our mine]. Courtney was able to provide prompt input and provide some innovative approaches to some of the challenges we faced this summer. Of particular note, the entire summer was performed without an injury or loss time incident, and many of our slope remediation structures were repaired and installed allowing us to continue safely mining. Courtney and his team worked hard, safely, and diligently at each task and was able to complete everything we assigned to the group in a timely fashion. In addition, they maintained a positive attitude despite challenging conditions. We look forward to having Courtney and/or Adam back to site next summer tackling our next set of challenges with slope wall remediation…. Please extend our appreciation for the great work Courtney and his team completed this year. As in their words, we look forward in seeing the team “dominate” any future challenges for our next year’s campaign.

Steve [Wahl] has been gracious with his time during our visits. The feedback … has been very positive (almost glowing) and also your quick action to resolve any concerns from our last visit ... was greatly appreciated…. Keep up the great work, you and your team’s professionalism has not gone unnoticed.

Client in Central Pennsylvania on Soil Nail Wall Project

As told by GSI Project Development Engineer: We have a SN wall job going on in central PA. Our client is a design build general contractor who is building a distribution center for the owner. I knew our job was finishing up soon, so I called the client on Friday to make sure he was happy. He said that both he and the owner are ‘extremely pleased’. A bit of back story on this one…karst site, and the line blasting for the cut wall was done poorly to boot. So, the excavated face was very difficult to work with to say the least. The client and owner were very skeptical that we could pull off a stable wall that looked ‘good’. Well, one day when Matt Crouch and his crew were working hard on the wall, the owner was out on site with our client looking at the wall area. The owner said to our client “geez looks like these guys aren’t fazed by anything”. Given the client and owner experiences, they are used to subcontractors complaining or making excuses. Well, Matt and the guys kept their head down, went to work hard, and got the job done. The client went on to tell me later that he would recommend us to anyone.

Client in Vermont

You and Chris are awesome to work with! … Your crews that have been here are all very well organized, dependable and get their work done! GSI should be very proud of the crews they have working for them. Thanks again Perry for all your help and assistance!

Safe and Successful Project Completed for Client in British Columbia, Canada

Hi Graeme, I apologize for taking so long to respond; it is a credit to the smoothness of this project that I was able to shift my focus onto other ones. When asked by a colleague how this project went, I responded "that so last week". Seriously though, I want to sincerely thank you and your crew for their great efforts and patience getting this going and completed safely and successfully. A senior manager reviewing the photos also noted how tidy and well organized the site looked. Thanks also for accommodating all our site visits and heli close-ups.

Client in West Virginia

As told by GSI Project Development Engineer: A pipeline contractor dug a trench through the county road, down a steep bank, below a stream, and then up the next mountain to install the pipes. When they went to backfill the pipes in the roadway and embankment, the soil slipped and they couldn’t keep the backfill in place. We got a call to come out and look at the site. We gave them a proposal to build a GCS toe buttress at the stream bed, and then have the pipeline contractor construct a reinforced slope to rebuild the embankment. As the GCS was nearing the top, a WVDOH engineer stopped out to the site. The engineer was asking the pipeline contractor what the plan was, as he had general concern that the road would be repaired back to his satisfaction. As soon as the contractor mentioned GSI was working on the job, the county engineer said ‘OK, as long as GSI is on the job, I’m good here’.

General Contractor in Tennessee on Slope Stabilization & Drilling Project

Wanted to let you know how great GSI has been to work with out here at [our site]. We have had difficult drilling conditions since day 1 and they have worked tirelessly through bad soil and bad weather to make sure our project is a success. We have really appreciated them going the extra mile for us out here…

Mine Operator in Nevada

Just received a call from John at [the mine] and he wanted to pass on his gratitude for our efforts over the past few weeks! He went on to say you guys were outstanding to work with and he learned a great deal about this challenging and dynamic environment. Based on our your efforts, they are now moving back into this area to mine this high grade ore. Good job gang, and appreciate your team’s efforts. Please pass our appreciation to your crew.

GeoStabilization's ability to design an appropriate and practical stabilization method with limited geotechnical data and their ability to warranty their work set them apart. Moreover, their unique internal partnership of geotechnical experts and experienced equipment operators brought substantial value to the work product.

Client in Maryland

I had the perfect start to Veteran's Day. Maryland State government is off today in recognition of Veteran's Day, so I am fortunate to be one of the veterans lucky enough to be recognized by and attending my daughter's High School Veteran's Day Ceremonies. Being off is not what I am referring to that has made the start of my day perfect, it was the email message from GSI about Veteran's Day. I knew the work at GSI took dedication and integrity of a team, but now that I see why your company is so successful - with a great mission, an honorable and effective recruiting, hiring, and training philosophy, and you have found a great non-profit organization to support, The Mission Continues. Thank you to GSI for your support of Maryland SHA and to your Veteran's on this day that the great nation, the United States of America, has set aside to recognized you!

Client in Tennessee

As a Navy veteran, I am thankful for GeoStabilization’s support and commitment to our military service members. [Our] County Engineering Department equally thanks all of your veteran and reservist employees for their service. We would also like to extend a “Thank you!”, to your entire staff for their outstanding support over the past 2 years in addressing critical repairs to our county’s roads.

Client in British Columbia, Canada

The final product for the winter looks very well done and Matthew was great to work with. I look forward to working with your team next Spring and on future projects.

Mining Client in Canada

[Our] team wishes to express its gratitude for the excellent work that Steve Wahl performed for us this summer at [our mine]. Undoubtedly, there were times in which difficult circumstances occurred, and Steve was able to provide prompt, measured input as to his recommended approach. Of particular note, the entire summer was performed without an injury or loss time incident, and many of our slope remediation structures were repaired allowing us to continue safely mining.

Client in Wyoming on Rock Mitigation & Removal

Richard, I wanted to take a quick minute and thank you and Courtney and the awesome crew that you sent here to take care of our huge rock. Courtney, John, and Andrew are some of the hardest working people I have had the privilege to be around. Their attention to safety professionalism, and never quit attitude was amazing to watch. Even when things did not go our way they were committed to finishing the job. I appreciate you sending these great guys to help us out and look forward to the opportunity to work with you again in the future.

Mine Employees

As told by GSI Rockfall Division Director: “I am at the [mine] now and the truck with the equipment from the warehouse just arrived. Environmental issues are extremely important in the mine so any equipment arriving on site has to be pressure washed and cleaned. Although they ask this of every contractor that arrives on site, they always seem to have to do a secondary washing here with their own people (just the way it always seems to turn out). Our people at the warehouse did such an awesome job of cleaning and taking the client’s concern to heart that they do not have to do a secondary cleaning and complimented us for such a great job.

GeoStabilization Keeps Project on Track for Client in Virginia

As told by GSI Project Development Engineer: I was happy to take a call from [the Residency engineer] today and listened to him tell me how happy he was with the performance of Dylan and entire crew at the Garden Creek site. He had great things to say about the competence, work ethic, and professionalism of the whole team out there, and wanted to thank Dylan for the excellent communication as the project has unfolded. This is no small compliment, as this project began in a potentially negative atmosphere since the public thought we were behind schedule before we ever arrived! Nicely done, guys.

Client in British Columbia

As told by GSI Project Development Engineer: I just chatted with [the] Operation Manager for the Hwy 3 Char Creek project. He is extremely pleased with the way we are progressing, and very impressed with Matt and the crew’s professionalism and communication. I understand several Ministry reps were on site and given the red-carpet treatment and full briefing. They were pleased with the visit. Also, through all the years of work [he] had never experienced such a positive Workers Compensation Board safety inspection. In a thorough inspection that was nearly 2 hours in length, I understand the only comments the inspector could come up with were:
  • the fire extinguisher on the rental fork lift was missing an inspection tag (fully functional, good shape unit, just missing a tag),
  • the flagger didn’t have a reflective strip over the top of the hard hat (they have reflectors all the way around, but…. not over the top)
Nice work Gentleman!

Mine’s Chief of Emergency Response

After GSI personnel conducted a mock “man down” safety drill: I just wanted to follow up on the GSI drill. I could not be more impressed with the team at GSI – they are very competent and professional in every aspect of their jobs, and they performed impeccably with their self-retrieval system they put in place for the Mock Man down drill last week.

Principal Engineer for Consulting Firm

John Boyd was great. I couldn’t be more pleased with the crew. For the next mitigation project, we’ll work with GSI and specifically request John Boyd.

Mr. Aguirre, I want to personally thank you for all the effort you and your crew on site at [the quarry] did for me. You were very accommodating. Special point needs to be given to GSI's safety program and its employees for following them strictly. I would honestly say that your organization is one of the top in safety that I have seen in every rope access industry. Please give a couple extra kudos to Fred and Courtney for putting up with me and observing me in order to keep me out of harm’s way. There is no doubt I slowed down their progress. I wish I could remember the whole crews name for they all deserve praise for the jobs that they do. After only two half days of peeling rock, my back is killing me from pushing that bar around. This is a really hard and dirty job (not to copy Rowe) and its workers deserve the utmost respect from the rope access community. I seriously believe you have one of the nastiest. Right up there with the oil industry. This time spent observing and hands on gave me a plethora of information and understanding. I, of course need to see a few other aspects of your industry, not limited to, but to include: drilling (especially horizontally), rigging and lifting (cranes, helicopters, etc.), explosives, and installations of the final products. I hope that with your efforts and others in your industry we can accomplish this soon. In conclusion, thank you again for all your hard work.

Client in Virginia Tips Hat to GeoStabilization

Colby, I wanted to send a note of thanks for excellent work on our project. It was clear that our staff was not going to be able to handle the difficulty of this problem. From day one, Perry Kairis’ calm and confident demeanor to the excellence in construction of Zech Moriarty and Larry Grant made this a successful project. This goes without saying for the folks behind the scene. This was my first job working with Perry, but appreciated his assistance when many people were looking at me for solutions. He provided this in an understandable form others could follow. I have worked with Zech before, and honestly took him for granted. I came to see him as “tough as nails,” the last time I worked with him, and he set the standard for me. I found age has not softened him up much, and was steadfast to the goal. At the same time, he would take a moment and keep me informed with what was occurring. I again appreciated him, and was saddened to hear when he was moving from our job. I did question Larry when he began, and for no other reason other than he was an unknown, but quickly realized he was talented in his work. He was also tough and skilled with an infectious smile to boot when asked questions about the work. I realize this is tough work, and was shocked to hear this was his first official job running the operation. With that said, I wanted to commend your company for its work, but tip my hat to this employee, he did well. Keep up the good work, I am sure the earth will keep moving, so expect to work with you again. Thanks.

Emergency Response Coordinator for a gold mine

I recently interacted with some of your rockfall division guys. I have never seen an outfit as competent on safety measures nor any contractors who worked as hard as your guys do. During the work, I was in a room with your guys and some other contractors, and your guys were head and shoulders above the rest in all aspects.

Just wanted to tell you that Kris and his crew: Malcom, Nick, Juan, and Shawn, did a great job for us. They are true professionals, hard workers, and gave us great results. Thanks again and look forward to working with you guys in the future!

Property owner adjacent to Class 1 Railroad work site

GSI was very professional and easy to work with throughout the whole process. They communicated well and were accommodating to our production needs, while allowing us to work with them to help them accomplish what they needed to get done as well. Dan, Amanda, Zech, Craig, and Justin were all great. It was actually pretty refreshing to be able to work with a group that was so easy deal with, especially for a contractor coming in from out of town. They all seemed to have Midwestern values and work ethic. If you have any questions whatsoever, I would be more than happy to discuss. Based on our experience, I would confidently and quickly recommend GSI to anyone needing similar geo stabilization.

Mine Management

On our weekly project update call at the mine, our meetings begin with a ‘safety share’. It’s usually filled with personal observations, mine traffic pattern changes to be conscientious of, or in this week’s meeting, a good catch by GSI’s Courtney Smith. There is a protocol to alert mine personnel working in the pit of any hazardous conditions, which includes highwall instabilities or severe weather approaching. Early hazard detection is critical at the mine as it is over 2.5 miles wide by almost a 1 mile deep. If warranted, the crews will need ample time to evacuate. With all the systems, risk controls and procedures in place to protect over 300 people working there, an onsite contractor (GSI) picked up on the lightning / weather quickly approaching and evacuated the slope. He then proceeded to advise mine dispatch of the situation, who in turn advised relevant mine crews (such as the drill & blast crew) that need to evacuate in the event of lightning. Courtney and crew should be commended on their proactive effort to let mine personnel know and not assume someone else was watching. The mine recognized this action and we should also take note of this courageous leadership to advise a mine with so many intimidating procedures in place to take action.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the expert design and construction work performed by your company on our [Retaining Wall Project]. On the design side, I was truly impressed by how quickly and efficiently you and the other engineers responded to the need to revise the original design due to conflicts that arose with many of the proposed soil nails and the locations of the existing underground utilities. The problem was recognized on a Friday and the project was redesigned, new calculations performed, and revised design plans prepared before the weekend expired. Obviously, you and others worked through the weekend to keep the job moving forward and on schedule. Thanks to you and your firm for the professional and courteous performance of both the design and construction work. I would not hesitate to recommend your firm to anyone who may have a need for the specialized types of services that your company is not only capable, but expert in performing.

I am pleased to write this note about our working relationship with GSI. My experience with them has been excellent. They have a great team of people from engineering to construction. GSI is a fast acting group who puts a solid proven solution to work in a very quick manner. Their field personnel are well schooled on their construction methods and quite efficient when providing the services required to meet design. It has been refreshing to work with this group, as they are professional from design to implementation.

Client from PA

[We have] worked with GeoStabilization International (GSI) for over 10 years. GSI is our “go to contractor” for difficult slope stabilization projects. We have worked with GSI to stabilize steep slopes and remediate landslides on numerous projects along highways, pipelines and railroad right-of-ways. We have found them to be an excellent partner and one of very few contractors capable of working in areas with remote/difficult access. Their experienced equipment operators are able to work efficiently under difficult and often hazardous conditions, and yet maintain the project schedule… [We have] recommended GSI to clients and subcontracted them sole source on … design-build projects. I have no reservations recommending GSI for geohazard mitigation type work on pipeline right-of-way or other projects requiring slope stabilization.

Client from TX

[We were] contracted to install … 35 miles of 20” steel pipeline [in] Pennsylvania. As part of the project, the pipeline had to be installed on a 35 [degree] slope approximately 900 feet in length… The GSI crew arrived on project ready to go to work. The entire crew made safety the top priority and was a pleasure to work with. They installed the required stabilization in a very professional and timely matter and our client and I was very pleased with the results. I will not hesitate to employ GSI on future projects.

Emergency Repair of an Earth Retaining Wall for Client in New Mexico

I had the opportunity to work with GSI on an emergency repair of an earth retaining wall on Highway NM 475 at MM 11. This project was an emergency repair because the earth retaining wall is part of the roadway embankment, which was failing. Also, NM 475 is the only highway used to get to Ski Santa Fe. The NMDOT requested that GSI have repairs to the wall made before the kickoff to ski season. As I remember, there was not much advanced notice to proceed given. GSI was able to work in inclement weather, traveling hazardous roadways to get to the job site. The crew was good, they concentrated on production. They understood that this project needed to be expedited. The crew worked like a well-oiled machine. Apparently, some of the crew worked together on a previous project for six weeks. It showed because, for example, if one guy needed a pipe wrench, another guy already had it ready for him. Like I said above, the crew worked on production, they hustled, and did it all in a very safe manner. At the end, the wall had been completely repaired two days after the opening of Ski Santa Fe, which was good for all. I would highly recommend GSI on any future NMDOT projects.

As told by GSI Project Development Engineer: We are currently close to finishing one of five sites proposed for repair to the [local Water and Power Agency]. The agency folks were very impressed with GSI’s professionalism and support during the repair procedures. Our approach to the project, our field crew’s commitment to safely, our expertise in what we do, and our continuous involvement in the project at multiple levels all contributed to their positive feelings about GSI.

Concrete General Contractor in Virginia

Perry & Chris, I hope all is well. Every so often I think back on how both of you and GeoStabilization helped us out tremendously on the Rte. 17 project and put us back on schedule. We ended up finishing the Rte. 17 project 5 days ahead of schedule …. It will always stick in my mind. I wanted to see if you guys would be interested in giving me a price [for additional work].

Rock Quarry in California

Your crew finished up yesterday afternoon, leaving our slope in good shape. They worked safely, were responsive and enthusiastic, and hard-working. I'd be happy to have any of these guys on a future project with [our company].

Client in South Carolina

As told by GSI Project Development Engineer: We had a site walk today with the gang from the SCDOT district as well as the statewide construction engineering group. They had good things to say about the professionalism and intelligence of our crew. In particular, one of the construction engineers pointed out that in all his years of working on projects, ours was the best and most thorough safety meeting he had attended.
