Active Duty Career Skills Internship

Upon successful completion of the Internship, Charles returned to duty as an Active Duty Soldier where he serves as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment on Fort Drum NY. Charles was offered the position of Geohazard Mitigation Technician 2 upon his completion of military service.

Biography

“My name is SGT Charles Crispell. I’m originally from Brooktondale, NY. I was in the Army for 8 years as a 91B- Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic. The reason I joined GSI was because of the first thing I saw on their recruiting pamphlet, which was their values. It matched with the military and it seemed to have a brotherhood feel that I enjoyed while serving.”
“I went into the internship and worked on a couple of landslides down in Tennessee and Kentucky for ground stabilization. We drilled nails, mixed cement and put on mesh to secure the ground. I enjoy this and definitely, hands down would say this was the best experience for me. Being able to help communities in a way I would not have thought about. This is a purpose-driven business that I would suggest to anyone.”

Upon successful completion of the Internship, Isaac has returned to duty as an Active Duty Soldier where he serves as an Infantryman in the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment on Fort Drum NY. Isaac was offered the position of Geohazard Mitigation Technician 2 upon his completion of military service which he accepted.

Biography

Issac Flugence Is from Lafayette, Louisiana. He grew up with 6 sisters and 3 brothers. Isaac graduated from Carencro High School. Then he joined the military 4 years after high school, he joined because he wanted to be a part of something bigger than himself where he could make an impact on not only helping people but also being a part of mentoring younger soldiers. Isaac saw GSI during the SFL-TAP class and found it to be a perfect fit.

“I wanted to do something that would not only benefit the environment but the community as well. During my time at GSI’s 3-month internship, it was well worth it. I’ve learned how to operate numerous pieces of equipment I’ve never gotten a chance to use before. I actually found that I’m pretty good at using the equipment. From the early mornings to late nights you’re always working hard and learning new things. I like GSI because they stress the safety factor and how much it keeps you safe. While on the job site all the guys are constantly looking out for each other. I like that because the guys build a brotherhood that way it makes you want to keep each other that much safer. It’s always family first at GSI. I plan to pursue this career and retire from GSI. The best company there is.”

Upon successful completion of the Internship, John has returned to duty as an Active Duty Soldier where he serves as a Platoon Sergeant in the 4th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team on Fort Carson Colorado. John was offered the position of Geohazard Mitigation Technician 2 upon his completion of military service which he accepted.

Biography

John was born in Ogden Utah but grew up in Edinburg Virginia. John has two sisters which one is older, and one is younger. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson high school in 1996. He then joined the US Army in August of 1998, with 21 years in the Army getting ready to retire. John is married to his wife of 17 years Doris. They have one daughter which is now a Senior in high school getting ready to go off to college. John loves the outdoors, especially anything to do with bass fishing. John plans to continue his career of service with Geostabilization International.

“GSI has made my transition from military to civilian life very easy. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I retired from the Army. GSI keeps me busy and in shape. The internship was straight forward. I didn’t feel left in the dark about anything for the entire program. If I had questions, they were answered, I highly recommended GSI to numerous Soldiers transitioning from the military and will continue too. I am ready to close the 21-year military chapter of my life and start a new one with GSI.”

Biography

Xavier Montaño is from a small town called Bernalillo in New Mexico. Xavier grew up with two older sisters and a twin brother, He is the youngest. Xavier is a graduate of Bernalillo High School and pursued his lifelong dream. During high school, he became a certified welder and enjoyed doing projects for people. Xavier would go on to say he didn’t have the greatest living situations growing up, but he would always make the best of it. Growing up he knew he always wanted to join the Army and be a Soldier. With his service obligation in the Army complete, he wanted to do something where he could not only serve his country but the community. Xavier saw the Internship program and saw that GSI was the best fit for him. During his 12-week long internship he felt it was well worth it, “From the early mornings to the late nights, you’re always working hard and learning new things. ‘Family First’ is one of the main ethics GSI lives by”. Xavier plans to pursue his career as a Geohazard Mitigation Technician and retire from Geostabilization International. Xavier plans to live in New Mexico and starts his first day on August 15th, 2019.
