Draped Steel Mesh Replacement

GeoStabilization International® replaced a problematic draped steel mesh with a new high-capacity mesh system in British Columbia, Canada, specified by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. The overgrown limited-access site was challenging, but our team cleared the necessary space to work safely.

The new mesh system used the existing rock anchors and newly installed ones required by the specification. After the mesh was placed, our crew performed extensive testing to ensure the mesh’s quality and system’s performance.

High Capacity Steel Mesh Systems

High-capacity steel mesh systems provide an environmentally friendly alternative to shotcrete for controlling rockfall from slopes. The draped mesh, or rockfall mesh, is a system of galvanized steel wires hung on the slope to control falling rocks’ energy to prevent damage to people and the infrastructure below.

At GeoStabilization International®, we provide innovative solutions for geohazard mitigation. Our specialized equipment facilitates geohazard repairs with minimal environmental impact while reducing project cost and duration for our clients. Our solutions can include material from one of the following manufacturers:

  • Trumer’s High-Performance Netting – a high-tensile mesh whose strong galvanized steel wires create a highly durable facing that resists corrosion
  • Macaferri’s MacMat® – uses synthetic fibers that are UV-stabilized and non-degradable combined with steel wire mesh
  • Geobrugg’s TECCO® Mesh – is one of the most robust slope stabilization meshes available. The mesh has high mechanical strength due to its high-tensile, 3-mm steel wire
