How Can Geotechnical Engineering Help Prevent Failures and Ensure the Long-term Durability of Power Infrastructure?

  • Site investigation and geotechnical assessments: Site investigation and geotechnical assessments are essential for identifying and evaluating the geological, geotechnical, and hydrological conditions of a site.
  • Foundation design: Foundation design is critical for the stability and durability of power and energy infrastructure. Geotechnical engineers use site investigation data to design foundations that can withstand the loads imposed by the infrastructure and the surrounding soil conditions.
  • Slope stability analysis: Slope stability analysis is used to assess the stability of natural slopes and engineered slopes that support power and energy infrastructure. Geotechnical engineers use analytical and numerical methods to analyze the stability of slopes and to design slope stabilization measures, such as retaining walls and soil nails.
  • Ground improvement: Ground improvement techniques are used to enhance the properties of the soil and improve the stability of power and energy infrastructure. Techniques such as soil stabilization, deep soil mixing, and grouting can be used to improve soil strength, reduce settlement, and mitigate liquefaction.
  • Geosynthetics: Geosynthetics are synthetic materials that are used to reinforce soil and provide additional support to power and energy infrastructure.

GeoStabilization International® provides specialized services to support public and private power infrastructure asset owners/operators, utilities, engineering firms, contractors, and consultants. When unanticipated geohazards threaten critical energy infrastructure, GeoStabilization International® will mobilize and provide emergency design/build/warranty-engineered solutions. With engineering expertise focused on geohazard mitigation, you can be assured that you will receive the best solution for the specific geohazard you are facing. Our fleet of specialized limited-access equipment coupled with an industry-leading safety record, rapid deployment, and commitment to quality ensures the solution will be installed the first time correctly.

Constructing New Power Delivery Structures

We collaborate with power infrastructure stakeholders in the initial planning stages, expertly installing tower/pole foundations using our licensed engineering teams. Our expertise ensures stable access roads, ROW corridors, and material lay down areas. With the largest fleet of all-terrain spider excavators in North America, we handle challenging terrains and remote access conditions efficiently.

Maintaining Critical Power Infrastructure

Whether it’s in response to an emergency event or addressing maintenance of critical infrastructure we have engineered solutions to meet your needs. Foundation and soil stabilization, landslide repairs, rockfall mitigation, soil nailing, shotcrete, or MSE walls, drainage repair, permeation grouting, and ROW access roads.

Faster – Greener – Safer

With over 20 years of experience, Geostabilization International has the experience and capacity to complete any power project. From grid hardening initiatives to stabilizing current infrastructure, our team of operators and spider excavators are the specialty tools needed in limited access and environmentally sensitive areas.

Our team can scale 50-degree slopes, reduce environmental impact, and complete projects 10x faster than traditional solutions in the industry. With the specialty design of the spider excavator, we can access terrain without a road that typical machinery would not be able to access. Our clients have seen vegetation regrowth as soon as four months after project completion. After about a year, clients couldn’t tell where our spider excavator was at on the project.

At Geostabilization International, we recognize the risks that are associated with our work. That’s why we have made investments in training our operators in the only spider training facility in the U.S. Ensuring our operators are the right fit for every job and provide increased job site safety, especially when working in unstable soils and uneven terrain. By having our crews on site, we reduce the crew’s exposure to the elements, and physically demanding tasks in limited access areas can now be completed with our spider excavators.
