Put Your Skills to Work in Geotechnical Construction

Experienced field construction team members play a key role in the success of every project. Working in small crews, you’ll help install stabilization systems and operate specialized equipment used to solve complex geotechnical challenges. Your work may include:

  • Operating drilling equipment and heavy machinery
  • Installing soil nails, anchors, and stabilization systems
  • Supporting rockfall mitigation and slope stabilization projects
  • Working safely in steep terrain and challenging environments
  • Collaborating closely with a small field crew to complete projects
“However fast you want to learn and your capabilities to learn and your capabilities to take on more responsibility. You can grow yourself and it's all on you. It's an opportunity at the heart - you know, you put in hard work and you get rewarded for it in different ways. It's a good feeling, you know, there's opportunities and growth and that everyone around you is learning too.

Specialized Work That Keeps Infrastructure Safe

The work our crews perform protects highways, railways, bridges, and communities from geohazards like landslides and rockfall. These projects often involve conditions that many contractors avoid — steep slopes, remote locations, and complex engineering challenges. That’s where GSI crews thrive. For experienced construction professionals who enjoy technical work, unique job sites, and solving real problems in the field, geotechnical construction offers a career unlike most others in the industry.

“I felt like a hero, a silent, unsung hero. Because we were, you know, fixing roads and stuff to make it safe for people to travel”

Travel, Experience, and Opportunity

GSI crews travel to projects across the country, bringing specialized construction expertise wherever it’s needed. While the work can take you away from home for periods of time, it also creates opportunities to gain experience on a wide variety of projects.

Employees benefit from:

  • Travel to diverse project locations
  • Overtime hours and strong earning potential
  • All travel, meals, and lodging covered while on the road
  • Hands-on experience with specialized equipment and techniques
  • The chance to build valuable construction skills that few contractors offer

For many experienced crew members, the variety of projects and locations is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

Small Crews, Real Responsibility

Most projects are completed by small crews of four to five people working closely together. That means experienced field construction team members play an important role in keeping projects moving safely and efficiently. Your experience matters. Team members are trusted to think ahead, solve problems in the field, and support the success of the entire crew. For people who enjoy teamwork, independence, and responsibility, small field crews offer a rewarding way to work.

“Once you actually develop a rhythm with the crew that you're a part of, you actually do become more like family than anything else - everything just kind of starts to fall in place with how things get done.”
