What Are Micropiles?
Micropiles are small-diameter (5 to 12 inch), drilled and grouted foundations reinforced with steel. Dallas sits on expansive Blackland Prairie clay that swells and shrinks with the seasons, a leading cause of foundation cracking and settlement across the metro. Micropiles carry structural loads through this active clay zone into stable soil or rock, and because installation is low-vibration and low-noise, they work in tight basements, occupied buildings, and restricted-access sites throughout DFW.
A single micropile can carry axial loads from roughly 50 to 300+ tons — more than spread footings or helical piers typically handle. That combination of depth, capacity, and minimal disruption is why Dallas project teams rely on micropiles for:
