Rockfall Containment Contractor

Design-Build Rockfall Containment Systems for Hazard Mitigation

GeoStabilization International is the rockfall containment contractor of choice for highways, rail lines, utilities, and alpine or coastal corridors where falling debris threatens safety and infrastructure.

For more than 20 years, our design-build teams have delivered complete rockfall containment systems, catch fences, netting, pinned mesh, attenuators, and shotcrete or anchor solutions, that intercept, control, or prevent rock movement while minimizing closures and community disruption. Using rope-access crews, limited-access drills, and rigorous quality management, we keep projects safe, efficient, and on schedule.

Why Choose GSI as Your Rockfall Containment Contractor

  • Turnkey Design-Build: In-house geotechnical engineers and rope-access installers deliver one accountable partnership from analysis through commissioning.
  • Rapid Mobilization: Nationwide coverage ensures fast deployment for emergencies and accelerated project schedules.
  • Access Anywhere: Rope-access crews, compact and limited-access drills, casing systems, and helicopter logistics for steep or constrained terrain.
  • Engineered Certainty: Systems modeled for site-specific energy and deflection criteria with verified anchor loads and testing.
  • Safety and Quality Management: Comprehensive work-at-height, traffic-control, and verification programs that meet or exceed industry standards.

Our Rockfall Containment Capabilities

Flexible post-and-net systems with defined energy ratings and deflection limits to intercept falling blocks before they reach the right-of-way.

High-tensile wire mesh draped from the crest to guide raveling material into engineered catchments such as ditches or berms.

Tensioned mesh anchored with bolts or dowels to stabilize blocks and wedges on slopes with greater instability.

Hybrid solutions that combine upper drapes with lower energy fences—ideal for long slopes or limited toe access.

Structural or protective shotcrete, surface sealing, and resin applications to bind fractured faces and reduce weathering.

Bar and strand anchors with corrosion protection for fence posts, crest ties, and mesh terminations.

Regular inspections, debris removal, and component replacement programs to maintain performance and extend service life.

Catch Fence

GSI Project Approach

  • Assessment and Modeling: Geological mapping, trajectory and energy analysis, and consequence ranking to guide system layout and type selection.
  • Design-Build Engineering: Determination of system type, catch fence, drape, pinned mesh, or attenuator, with defined post spacing, anchor loads, and acceptable deflection limits.
  • Access and Foundations: Rope-access crews and limited-access drilling using down-the-hole or top-hammer methods; installation of anchors and footings with corrosion and drainage detailing.
  • Erection and Commissioning: Installation of posts, nets, brake elements, and tie-ins; proof, performance, and creep testing to verify system capacity.
  • Operations and Maintenance: As-built documentation, inspection and cleanout plans, and long-term rehabilitation strategies.
Rockfall Containment

Client Reviews

Rockfall Mitigation in Virginia

I wish I had been smart enough to let you design the rock mitigation. You and your team turned in an excellent performance. The work ethic of your team impressed everyone on our side of the table. Most companies print a slogan on their company clothing. However, your folks demonstrated every hour that they “Work Hard or Go Home”. You sent us a world class construction team – thanks!

Rockfall Mitigation and Removal in Wyoming

Richard, I wanted to take a quick minute and thank you and Courtney and the awesome crew that you sent here to take care of our huge rock. Courtney, John, and Andrew are some of the hardest working people I have had the privilege to be around. Their attention to safety professionalism, and never quit attitude was amazing to watch. Even when things did not go our way they were committed to finishing the job. I appreciate you sending these great guys to help us out and look forward to the opportunity to work with you again in the future.

Rockfall Mitigation Support for Mining Operations

As told by GSI Rockfall Division Director: “I am at the [mine] now and the truck with the equipment from the warehouse just arrived. Environmental issues are extremely important in the mine so any equipment arriving on site has to be pressure washed and cleaned. Although they ask this of every contractor that arrives on site, they always seem to have to do a secondary washing here with their own people (just the way it always seems to turn out). Our people at the warehouse did such an awesome job of cleaning and taking the client’s concern to heart that they do not have to do a secondary cleaning and complimented us for such a great job.
