Embarking on the replacement project of the Cementon Road Bridge (SR 329) over the Lehigh River and Northampton Counties in Pennsylvania, our team at Access Limited showcased competence in temporary shoring design and construction. The intricate planning required for abutment 1 on the western bank, with shoring depths reaching up to 25 feet across approximately 200 linear feet, demanded a top-down construction approach. Collaborating with the general contractor, we implemented a precise excavation strategy in 5- to 6-foot lifts.
Our expertise extended to providing design drawings stamped by a professional engineer licensed in the State of Pennsylvania. For abutment 1, up to 200 linear feet, up to 25 feet deep, and up to 4,040 square feet (SF) of temporary shoring was installed, consisting of soil nails up to 10 to 25 feet long and shotcrete facing with a nominal thickness of 4 inches. Abutment 2 involved up to 43 linear feet, up to 17 feet deep, and up to 495 SF of similar temporary shoring. The soil nails underwent up to 5 proof tests during production.
