Slurry Grouting

Ground Improvement for Long-Term Stability

Slurry Grouting

GeoStabilization International provides engineered slurry grouting solutions to improve ground strength, reduce seepage pathways, and support foundation performance across Canada. From urban construction zones in Ontario and Québec to infrastructure corridors in Alberta and British Columbia, GSI designs site-specific grouting programs that deliver durable results with minimal surface disruption.

Slurry grouting is a proven approach for treating open-graded soils and fractured rock where stability, water movement, or loss of support can threaten safety, access, and long-term asset performance.

What Is Slurry Grouting?

Slurry grouting, sometimes referred to as cementitious grouting, is a ground improvement technique that injects neat cement or cement-based slurry into open-graded soils, coarse granular layers, or fractured rock. As the grout travels into void spaces and cures, it fills cavities, binds loose material, and reduces permeability to help improve subsurface stability.

This method is often selected when excavation is impractical, access is limited, or groundwater conditions require a controlled, below-grade solution. Slurry grouting can be effective across Canada’s variable subsurface profiles, including coarse deposits, cobble zones, and fractured bedrock commonly encountered near waterways and infrastructure corridors.

How Slurry Grouting Is Applied

Slurry grouting can help control water inflow and improve ground conditions around tunnels, shafts, or deep excavations. It is frequently used where seepage control and ground stability are essential for safe construction sequencing.

By injecting grout beneath or around foundations, slurry grouting can improve subsurface support and reduce settlement potential. This approach is commonly applied for bridge approaches, industrial facilities, and municipal structures where maintaining operations and limiting excavation is a priority.

Slurry grouting is used to reduce seepage through embankment zones and foundation interfaces by filling voids and tightening flow paths. These applications support long-term performance for water-retaining infrastructure in high-moisture environments.

Where coarse soils, erosion, or loss of ground support threaten roadway or corridor stability, slurry grouting can improve subgrade performance and reduce future deformation. This is especially valuable for transportation routes experiencing repeated loading and seasonal moisture change.

Engineered slurry grouting

Strengthen soils and control seepage

Advantages of Slurry Grouting

  • Improves ground strength and stability in open-graded soils

  • Reduces seepage and helps control groundwater pathways

  • Enhances foundation support without full excavation

  • Performs well under variable moisture and freeze–thaw conditions

  • Minimizes disruption in active corridors and constrained sites

  • Provides efficient reinforcement for both planned work and urgent repairs

Because it can be implemented through small injection points and phased installation plans, slurry grouting is often well suited for projects where safety, access, and schedule constraints are key considerations.

Environmental and Site Considerations

Slurry grouting can support responsible construction by reducing excavation volumes, limiting material export, and minimizing disturbance near sensitive areas. GSI designs injection plans to control grout travel, manage groundwater interaction, and support permitting requirements where water-adjacent or regulated environments are involved.

When seepage or erosion creates risk to infrastructure, slurry grouting can also help reduce long-term impacts by stabilizing ground conditions and supporting predictable drainage behavior.

Client Reviews

Positive Experience Working with Project Team

Justin, I wanted to reach out and let you know that is was a pleasure working with you all at the [….] Project. The guys on this job were very professional and never once wavered from the plans and specs. These guys did absolutely everything the right way and wanted to make sure that the customer was happy with the work. Again, I appreciate your guys’ hard work and professionalism and look forward to working with you again in the future.

Foundation Grouting and Structural Repair for Homeowner

I wanted to drop you a quick note. Late last year I had Tom Szynakiewicz come by and advise me as to what I needed to do to fix my house structure. Tom and GSI were great to work with to find a solution for my structure issues. GSI did an excellent job for us and got us on the right track with the work that was performed. We just sold the home last week, and disclosed the work that was done. We had zero issues with selling the home because it was fixed by GSI. I am very thankful I called and got you guys involved! Thanks again for steering me in the right direction Wayne!

Successful Project Support in British Columbia, Canada

Hi Graeme, I apologize for taking so long to respond; it is a credit to the smoothness of this project that I was able to shift my focus onto other ones. When asked by a colleague how this project went, I responded "that so last week". Seriously though, I want to sincerely thank you and your crew for their great efforts and patience getting this going and completed safely and successfully. A senior manager reviewing the photos also noted how tidy and well organized the site looked. Thanks also for accommodating all our site visits and heli close-ups.
