Road Safety Systems is hiring an experienced Shop Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair the trucks, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery used by our roadway construction and safety crews.

This is a hands-on mechanic position for someone with strong experience diagnosing and repairing diesel, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems. We’re looking for someone who can troubleshoot problems, make quality repairs, and help keep our equipment safe, reliable, and ready for the field.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, and specialized construction equipment

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot diesel, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems

  • Perform mechanical repairs ranging from routine maintenance to more complex equipment issues

  • Complete welding and light fabrication for equipment repairs and modifications

  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and make timely repairs to minimize downtime

  • Inspect equipment and identify maintenance or safety concerns before they become larger problems

  • Maintain accurate service records, inspections, and work orders

  • Work closely with operations and field teams to keep equipment ready for upcoming projects

  • Safely operate forklifts and other shop equipment

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Construction Equipment Mechanic, or similar role

  • Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment or construction machinery

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience working with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems

  • Welding and fabrication experience

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet CMV driver qualification requirements

  • Ability to obtain a CDL within the required timeframe if you do not already have one

  • Dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working independently

Preferred:

  • CDL Class A

  • Experience repairing DOT, roadway construction, or similar equipment

  • Technical or trade school training in diesel, heavy equipment, automotive, or a related field

  • CAT, Komatsu, or other manufacturer-specific training or certifications

Work Environment

  • Primarily shop-based with occasional field support

  • Work around trucks, heavy equipment, tools, and machinery

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly

  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods

  • Occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions

$24.51—$30.29 USD
