When a portion of Sunset Road on Vashon Island in King County experienced a landslide with previous surficial erosion issues, GeoStabilization International ® provided a design/build/warranty solution. To restore the approximately 70-foot length of damaged road, GSI installed an array of SuperNails ™ to stabilize the slope and faced it with galvanized high-strength mesh.
The solution chosen for this specific project revegetates naturally and will completely hide the mitigation measures once fully grown.
All work was completed from the roadway above due to severe access limitations. This approach reduced the required slope grading and subsequent environmental impacts to the shore of Puget Sound. The entire project was completed in less than two weeks and came with a 5-year performance warranty.
A variation of karst sinkhole grouting is the grouting of mined coal seams and workings located below existing infrastructure that exhibit the potential to propagate to the surface and cause sinkholes and/or subsidence.
