What is a Spider Excavator

Spider Excavators are all-terrain access vehicles that are ideal machines for steep, limited-access sites. These “Walking Excavator” drills can work on up to 60 degree slopes in mud, snow, rock, and flood environments under challenging conditions.

GeoStabilization maintains the largest and newest fleet of these rigs, which perform mechanical scaling, high-angle excavation, and drilling activities in environmentally and geologically difficult terrain. Because these rigs can “walk” rather than use tracks, they can even be used in active streambeds. We t all of our rigs with purpose-built drill attachments to install SuperNails®, rock bolts, SuperMicropiles, or tensioned anchors on slopes up to 70 degrees.

Currently, contractors have to cut roads to projects’ limited-access sites, a process that can take weeks before drilling can begin. GeoStabilization’s teams will “walk” the excavator on the slope to drill the requisite soil nails and/or rock bolts. These innovative tools decrease a project duration by up to 80% with a similar cost savings to the customer.

Our team consists of the most experienced operator and equipment professionals in the Geohazard industry, which enables us to respond quickly to any emergency landslide repair, rockfall mitigation, or grouting foundation service.
