{"id":1589,"date":"2017-07-10T15:35:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-10T15:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=1589"},"modified":"2024-05-09T17:50:16","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T17:50:16","slug":"welcome-to-our-summer-interns","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to our 2017 Summer Interns"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- Start Block: acf\/wysiwyg -->\n<section class=\"wysiwyg section-padding bg-white\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col-lg-10 col-lg-offset-1\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wysiwyg__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For the past several years GeoStabilization has hosted summer interns in our highly competitive program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>With an application process that is quite rigorous, our historical 5% acceptance rate means that getting into GeoStabilization International\u2019s internship program is more competitive than being admitted to the freshman class at\u00a0Harvard University.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>All internship positions are paid assignments that allow interns to travel to job sites across the continent to get a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Our interns are designated a mentor who assigns them technical projects, monitors their progress, and gives them feedback on their efforts.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>While this year\u2019s positions are filled, interested participants for future spots should contact our Chris Harris at 970-773-1661 or\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:chris.harris@gsi.us\"><span class=\"s2\">chris.harris@gsi.us<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for next year\u2019s selection process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019d like to introduce this year\u2019s participants:<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/\">Riley Windsor<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/\">Eanan Gidley<\/a>,<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/\">Jeff Hamlin<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/\">Nate Dummerth<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/\">Jenna Ritchie<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/\">Robert Huber<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/resources\/news\/welcome-to-our-summer-interns\/\">Luis Aguirre<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/11\/riley-110x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"GeoStabilization Intern gets a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting\" width=\"118\" height=\"161\" \/>Originally from Columbus, Ohio,\u00a0<strong>Riley Windsor<\/strong>\u00a0is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geological Engineering with focus in Geotechnics with one semester remaining at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Previously, he worked as a summer Geotechnical intern for Rio Tinto Borates at a mine in Boron, California.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>There Riley monitored benches, ran analysis on pit slopes, and helped redesign a more stable excess soil dump for the mine.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>A varsity athlete, he is a member of Missouri S&amp;T\u2019s NCAA Division 2 soccer team. In his spare time, Riley enjoys biking, hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, and being outdoors with friends.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/11\/eanan-110x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"GeoStabilization Intern, Ethan, gets a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting\" width=\"105\" height=\"143\" \/>Eanan Gidley<\/strong>\u00a0is enrolled at Iowa State University.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>He is working toward his undergraduate degree in Construction Engineering along with a minor in Geology.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>In addition to his studies, Eanan is a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the \u201cConE 322: Construction Equipment and Heavy Construction Methods\u201d class.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>In this capacity, he manages day-to-day class organization, grading, test creation, and has office hours where students can receive one-on-one instruction on material for which they need assistance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/11\/jeff-110x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"GeoStabilization Intern, Jeff, gets a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting\" width=\"110\" height=\"150\" \/>Jeff Hamlin<\/strong>\u00a0is currently in his final year of graduate school at Northern Arizona University (NAU) where he is pursuing a Master\u2019s degree in Civil Engineering; he also earned a Bachelor and Master degree in Geology from NAU.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>His engineering interests lie within the geotechnical and structural realms. Prior to returning to school, Jeff worked as an Operations Geologist in the energy industry while living in Denver and Dallas. Jeff lives in Flagstaff, Arizona where in his free time he enjoys rock climbing and mountain biking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/11\/huber-110x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"GeoStabilization Intern, Robert, gets a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting\" width=\"114\" height=\"155\" \/>Robert Huber<\/strong>\u00a0is second year intern with Geostabilization and is a graduate of Radford University with a BS in geology. Robert\u2019s time at Radford was spent working closely with Dr. Skip Watts who helped steer him into an interest in rockfall and landslides and using UAVs to study them. This school year, Robert started a MS program for geological engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Recently Robert was conferred AEG\u2019s prestigious Marliave Scholar; an award given to the association\u2019s most outstanding student.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>His hobbies include pretty much anything outdoorsy, including mountain biking and fly-fishing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/11\/luis-110x150-1.png\" alt=\"GeoStabilization Intern, Luis, gets a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting\" width=\"88\" height=\"120\" \/>Luis Aguirre<\/strong>\u00a0is a fleet intern working out of the Kentucky warehouse where he is assisting in tracking down equipment scattered across the country using Geotab. Luis is a nineteen-year-old sophomore who studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder where he plans on majoring in Finance and earning his MBA in five years.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>He enjoys various outdoor activities like hiking and snowboarding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/11\/nate-110x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"GeoStabilization Intern, Nate, gets a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting\" width=\"84\" height=\"114\" \/>Nate Dummerth<\/strong>\u00a0is a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia (Mizzou) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Currently, Nate is enrolled in the University of Missouri\u2019s Civil Engineering Master of Science program and is pursuing a geotechnical emphasis.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>When not studying, he enjoys traveling, snowboarding, water skiing, and wakeboarding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geostabilization.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/11\/jenna-110x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"GeoStabilization Intern, Jenna, gets a first-hand understanding of design-build geotechnical contracting\" width=\"90\" height=\"123\" \/>Originally from New Jersey,\u00a0<strong>Jenna Ritchie<\/strong>\u00a0attends Virginia Tech and will graduate in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical engineering focus.
